The Janani Suraksha Yojana 2017 is a revised motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission. It aims towards the safety of the expectant mothers in rural as well as urban areas. The BJP Government has taken steps to provide financial and medical aid to the pregnant women.

Availability of Proper Medical Aid: The medical facilities are not advanced and easily available in the rural areas. Therefore, the government has decided to reduce the mortality rate mothers as well as children with this scheme.
Special Focus on LPS: The scheme is applicable all over India including states as well as union territories. However, the special focus is on Low Performing States like Bihar, Orissa, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, etc. These states have less than 25% institutional delivery. Hence, the scheme focuses on higher number of institutional deliveries in these areas.
Regular Check-ups: Women registered under this scheme are to be given at least 2 free Antenatal check-ups. They will also be given post-delivery services with the help of ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
Proper Tracking: The government has strictly allotted medical workers who regularly track everything from preparing micro birth chart to every minute detail of pregnant women. Afterward, all the pregnant women will be allotted a JSY and MCH card.
Role of ASHA and Anganwadi Workers: ASHA and Anganwadi workers have a key role in this scheme as they provide financial and medical services to the registered pregnant women.
Bridge Between the Government and the Expectant Mothers: The ASHA and Anganwadi workers are burning the midnight oil to fill the gap between the government and the pregnant women. They regularly update the government about the expectant mothers. This somehow helps the government to make amendments in their scheme accordingly.
Incentives and other perks: The government has decided to pay incentives and other perks to ASHA and Anganwadi workers for encouragement. This helps to bring out better results.
Eligibility Criteria Of The Janani Suraksha Yojna
BPL Category: If a pregnant woman belongs to the below poverty line category, only then she will be provided benefits of the scheme.
19 Years Or Above: The government has decided to provide monetary help to pregnant women who are 19 years and above.
SC & ST Pregnant Women: The government has decided to enroll pregnant women who especially belong to SC or ST category.
Institutional Births: The pregnant women will be provided cash assistance only if they decide to give birth at the government hospital or a private hospital that has been authorized by the government.
Two Live Births: The financial and medical facilities will be given to the women with 2 children only.
Stillbirth Case: If a woman gives birth to a baby who has died during labor and the birth has happened, even then it will be considered a case under JSY scheme. The women will be given cash and medical assistance.
Cash Reward Criteria Under JSY
Once the JSY card is allotted and the woman has given birth to a child, she is immediately enrolled for several financial and medical assistance under JSY scheme. Also, the women has to get admitted in a government institute or a private hospital authorized by the government. The facilities will be given on the basis of where the woman lives, SC/ST factor, BPL category factor and more. Following is the information regarding cash-reward on the basis of different categories:
For Low Performing States: The states with less than 25 percent of institutional birth is considered as low performing states or LPS.
Rural Areas: The registered candidates will be given the total amount of 1400 INR if they choose the government hospital or a private hospital selected by the government to avail the medical facilities while giving birth.
Urban Areas: The same applies for urban area other then the total amount to be given is INR 1,000.
For High Performing States: The state carrying 25% or above institutional birth is a high performing state or HPS.
Rural Areas: The registered women who are enrolled under this scheme will be given a total of INR 700.
Urban Areas: Under this category, the registered woman will be eligible for the amount of INR 600.
Birth At Home: The main agenda of this scheme is to higher the number of institutional births. However, if a woman wants to give birth at home, then she will be given a cash assistance of INR 500 along with services by the ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
Documents To Be Submitted
Aadhar Card: As the Aadhar Card has now become necessary for all government programs. Therefore, the women enrolling under this scheme will also have to submit the identification as well as residential proof. Both of these conditions are fulfilled by the one and only Aadhar card.
BPL Card: As the scheme is also enrolled for women belonging to the BPL category with some additional medical facilities, therefore they have to provide a mandate BPL card. Although the BPL card is not necessarily necessary, in such cases some income certificates have to be submitted.
JSY Card: In order to avail all financial and medical facilities, JSY card has to be submitted. This card is allotted by the ASHA and Anganwadi workers post registration.

There are multiple ways to avail the application form of this scheme. It is available on the official website of the scheme which is managed by the government. Also, it can be availed from ASHA and Anganwadi workers as well as government hospitals.
Registration Process Of Janani Suraksha Yojna
The interested candidate can go to the official website of the scheme and click on the link written with ‘Apply Online’. This will give you a digital form or an e-registration form.
This form can also be downloaded if you want to submit your details offline. These forms are available in English and all local languages.
The candidate has to submit each and every detail with clarity like name of the expectant mother, address, address and other details.
Once the details are entered, the candidate has to go through the form to avoid any error. After the form completion and required documents attached, just click the ‘Submit’ button.
After the form is submitted, a code will pop up on your screen. Note down this code for future purpose. Once the verification process is completed, the JSY card will be sent to the candidate via post of ASHA workers.
For offline process, the candidate has to fill out all details along with the required documents. After the form submission and verification process, the form has to be submitted to the ASHA or Anganwadi centres.
